Our Best

When we want to impress someone with our best, how does that look? Usually we clean ourselves up, dress nicely, clean up our language, and act like we are pretty close to perfect. Like nothing really fazes us.

But lately I have been thinking a lot about what our best really means to God.

What can we offer the One who knows us so well that nothing is hidden from Him? Here are some of the things I’ve come up with:

complete trust and dependence,

desperate need,

and brokenness over our sin that offends Him.

Hmm…does being dependent, needy, and broken sound like our best to you? But who defines what is best? Who IS truth? Who rules?

Maybe we need to reconsider our outlook on life. Rethink what areas should be important. Rethink places that may need to see some change.

Have we been seeing this incorrectly for years?

If we want to please Him and offer Him our best, then we’d better try to understand what that is–from His perspective. And then humble ourselves before Him and ask Him to show us how to give Him the best version of ourselves that we can offer. Ask Him to redefine beauty in our minds so that we are no longer confused.

Creator, teach me, the created. I’m pretty foolish and weak. But I am drawn to You. And I desperately need and welcome Your help and power. Amen.

Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day long. Psalm 24:4-5
